Still Putting Off That SharePoint Upgrade? Time is Running Out!

2/15/2012 For those companies that still haven't migrated from SharePoint 2007 to 2010, now is the time to do it. Microsoft announced recently that Mainstream support of SharePoint 2007 will end on October 9, 2012. For anyone that continues to have a significant investment on the SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) platform, this is big news. If you have considered a migration to SharePoint 2010, it may be time to take action.

What does “Mainstream” support mean, or more importantly, what does the end of Mainstream support mean? First, it means that the product enters Extended Support, which ends all options of no-charge Microsoft support for issues that arise. Extended Support marks the end of non-security based hotfixes and no, you will no longer be able to file a Warranty Claim if your implementation merits it. The end of Mainstream support also signifies the end of design changes and feature requests.

Microsoft has an informative breakdown of Mainstream vs. Extended Support that can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifepolicy.
